History
Taigan History & Lineage
The Taigan is a very old breed that can be found from North Africa to Central Asia. Due to the vast amount of influence on the breed by countless other dogs throughout their migration across the continent, it is nearly impossible to trace them back to a single ancestor.
Soviet cynologists began registering known existing members of the breed in 1930, though this work was halted as the Germans invaded the USSR in 1941. Although well after the war, in 1964, Russia had written the first breed standard for the Taigan.
Everywhere that these dogs could be found, they would be seen filling a variety of roles, from hunting to labor, as well as being a popular pet. The breed standard was updated in 1995, and is the current accepted standard for the breed.

Taigan Medical Challenges
Some health issues found among Taigans are joint dysplasia, patellar luxation, allergies, and cancer. However, they are considered a fairly healthy breed overall, and most Taigans will live full lives without any serious issues. Annual checkups with your veterinarian will play an important role in helping you to better understand and ensure the health of your Taigan. Always be sure to call your vet if you have any serious concerns for the health or well being of your dog. Your Taigan will be grateful for all the loving care that you provide for them, and they will be sure to find plenty of ways to show it that will continue to bring you joy.
