Samoyed Medical Challenges
Some Samoyeds have been known to experience certain issues such as hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, heart problems and bloat. However, the Samoyed is considered to be a predominantly healthy breed and most of these dogs live full lives without serious issue. Annual checkups with your veterinarian will play an important role in helping you to keep on top of your dog’s health. The National Breed Club also suggests that you speak with your veterinarian about hip, cardiac and ophthalmologist evaluations, as well as PRA optigen DNA tests and RD/OSD DNA tests to help you better understand and ensure the health of your Samoyed. Be sure to contact your veterinarian right away if you have any serious concern for your dog’s health. Your Samoyed will be grateful for all the loving care that you provide for them, and they will be sure to find plenty of ways to show it that will continue to bring you smiles and joy.
