Saluki Medical Challenges
The Saluki is considered to be a predominantly healthy breed, free from any life threatening genetic diseases. However, some of these dogs have been known to experience other issues, such as heart conditions, certain forms of cancer, as well as some autoimmune and blood conditions, though most of these dogs live full lives without serious issue. Annual checkups with your veterinarian will play an important role in helping you to keep on top of any issues that may occur. The National Breed Club also suggests that you speak with your vet about cardiac exams and thyroid evaluations for your Saluki, to help you better understand and ensure their continued health. Your Saluki will be grateful for all the loving care that you provide for them, and they will be sure to find plenty of ways to show it that will continue to bring you smiles and joy.
