Puggle Personality

The Puggle is known for being a friendly and fun loving breed. They adore the company of their families and are equally content to cuddle up with their owners as they are to join them for some outdoor activities. Although they can sometimes be loud and boisterous, this usually only occurs when they are left alone for long periods. Puggles are typically eager to make new friends and can do well in homes with other pets or children. Even though they can sometimes have an aptitude for finding mischief, these intelligent pups can be trained and taught basic commands with relative ease, making them suitable for first time owners. Their lively and affectionate personalities can be an endless source of entertainment and joy for those to bring a loving companion into their home.

History

Puggle History & Lineage

Although there is still some debate whether the first Puggles were the result of accidental breeding or whether there was an intention to create a new breed, what is known is that they originated during the 1980’s in the United States. Puggles gained a great deal of popularity in the U.S. in only a couple of decades. By 2005, more people owned a Puggle than any other designer dog. Despite their widespread popularity, there are currently no parent clubs for the breed and no efforts have been made to have the breed recognized by the AKC. However, as more fanciers and breeders take an interest in the breed, we may still see an effort made in the future.

Puggle Medical Challenges

The Puggle is considered to be a predominantly healthy crossbreed, though some of them can still experience certain issues, including patellar luxation, hip dysplasia, thyroid conditions and epilepsy. Be sure to check with the breeder for any health screenings done on their breeding stock to give you a better idea of what you can expect. Annual checkups with your veterinarian will play an important role in helping you to keep on top of your Puggle’s health, as well as to promptly treat any issues that they may experience. Always be sure to contact your vet right away if you have any serious concerns for your dog’s condition. Your Puggle will be grateful for all the loving care that you provide for them, and they will be sure to find plenty of ways to show it that will continue to bring joy into the home.
