Longdog Personality
Longdogs can come across as shy when you first meet them. However, once they warm up to a new person they can be very affectionate, and they form close bonds to their owners. Though they may be loving, they won’t constantly beg for attention. They are often quite content to laze about while their families go about their business until it’s time to play or cuddle.
Although they are not very high energy, they do need ample space to move around and get the workout they need, so apartment living might not suit these dogs. They can get along well in houses with children though, and even other pets as long as they are raised alongside.
Longdogs are fun loving dogs who will enjoy time spent playing in the yard with their families and loved ones. Though their independent nature means you will always have to keep an eye on them outdoors to make sure they don’t try to chase some prospective prey, it also means that befriending one of these dogs can always be an entertaining experience, and it is always interesting to see what they will want to do next.

History
Longdog History & Lineage
The Longdog was bred to do the same job as the Lurcher, coursing and running down hares or other small game. However the Longdog is faster than the Lurcher, though at the cost of stamina.
For years these dogs filled this role well, until their use for hunting and coursing diminished and they eventually began finding their way into loving homes as family pets.

Longdog Medical Challenges
The Longdog is considered to be a predominantly healthy breed. However, depending on their family history, some of these dogs can still experience some issues, such as bloat, gastric torsion, osteosarcoma, cardiomyopathy, thyroid conditions, and heatstroke. Annual checkups with your veterinarian will play an important role in helping you to better understand and ensure your dog’s health. Always be sure to contact your vet right away if you have any serious concerns for the health and well being of your Longdog. Your pup will be grateful for all the loving care that you provide for them and they will be sure to find plenty of ways to show it that will continue to bring you joy.
