History
Labradoodle History & Lineage
The first known Labradoodle was bred in 1988 by an Australian breeder named Wally Conron for the Royal Guide Dog Association of Australia, by crossing Standard Poodle and Labrador Retriever.
These dogs were intended to be low shedding, highly trainable and gentle guide dogs for those with allergies to animal dander. Unfortunately, the breeding of these dogs focuses more on their qualities for this purpose than breeding out any genetic health issues, leading to the dogs being prone to a number of conditions.
Despite the few health challenges these dogs can face, they have become popular service dogs for those in need of a sensitive companion, as well as beloved house pets in the homes of many dog lovers around the world.

Labradoodle Medical Challenges
The Labradoodle is considered to be a predominantly healthy breed, though some of these dogs may still experience some issues such as joint dysplasia, ear infections, epilepsy, PRA, thyroid conditions, and allergies. However, most of these dogs live full lives without any major issue. Annual checkups with your veterinarian will help you to better understand and ensure the health of your pup. Always be sure to contact your vet right away if you have any serious concerns about your dog’s health and well being. Your Labradoodle will be grateful for all the loving care that you provide for them, and they will be sure to find plenty of ways to show it that will continue to bring you smiles and joy.
